EMRS Board to recommend more Model Schools for tribal areas

SRINAGAR, July 30: The Governing Body constituted for establishment and management of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Jammu and Kashmir convened it’s first meeting to finalise steps for operationalisation of existing EMRS and initiate process for new proposals in uncovered districts and tribal pockets, with focus on giving impetus to education in tribal areas.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A new academic year has begun and this year too, classes are being held online through KITE Victers channel and other virtual platforms. But for Kiran Sanal, a Class X student at Government Model VHSS, Vellanad, who lives in the tribal settlement of Melehamla situated about 20km from Kottoor, there is no excitement of a new academic year. It is just another year when Kiran will be missing out on his online classes due to the lack of a smartphone or laptop.
Around 115 tribal students of class ninth to 12th had returned to their hostels last month.
MUMBAI: All government and private student hostels in Maharashtra s Palghar district have been directed to be shut down from next week after 30 residential students test positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
The total number of hostel students who have tested positive since last week has gone up to 68.
On Tuesday, 30 students and a teacher of the Nandore tribal hostel tested positive.
Nine girl students have been kept under observation in a government hospital.
The rest have been quarantined in the hostel.
The parents of the remaining 160 students have been informed to take away their children.

Odisha to establish 3 Eklavya schools in Sambalpur
The Odisha government has decided to set up three Eklavya model residential schools for tribal students in the Sambalpur district, an official said on Sunday. The schools will be established in tribal-dominated Jamankira, Bamra and Jujumura blocks, he said.
Sambalpur District Welfare Officer Gitanshu Das said the Centre will construct the buildings for the schools that seek to impart quality education to tribal children in remote areas.
Construction work has begun in Bamara and Jamankira blocks, while land has been identified in Jujumura, he said.
Work is expected to be completed within three years, the official said.
