On Friday, April 23, 2021 Governor Doug Burgum signed the flagship education act, North Dakota Senate Bill 2304, into law requiring all elementary and secondary public and nonpublic schools in the state to include curriculum on Native American history that will become effective on August 1, 2021.

Shoshone-Bannock Indian Festival canceled
FORT HALL, Idaho (KIFI)-The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes have announced the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Festival has again been canceled this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Hosting the powwow doesn’t fit within the Tribes Safety Protocols and we must keep our community safe. Our community has not yet reached the vaccination rate we were hoping for and encourages tribal membership to get vaccinated so we can get back to somewhat of a normal,” said Tribal Chairman Devon Boyer.

The Quapaw Nation celebrated success, and in new business announced the Downstream Development Authority (DDA), was being dissolved. Former Tribal Chairman John Berrey and several others in his administration were being publicly accused of misspending more than $34 million. Berrey alone is alleged to have received $17 million in bonuses.
On Friday, April 16, 2021, Berrey was charged in Quapaw Nation Tribal Court with attempted embezzlement, conspiracy, abuse of office and improper gifts to tribal officials or employees.

CORNING, Calif. - Rolling Hills Casino & Resort is set to have a grand opening for Rock & Brews on Friday, April 16.
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with the restaurant opening right after.
The opening of the Rock & Brew is part of the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians’ goal to create a sustainable future for its people and surrounding communities. The tribe provides more than 70 jobs to Tehama County and is one of the county s three largest employers.

These notices shall satisfy two separate but related procedural notification requirements for activities to be undertaken by the Karuk Tribe.
REQUEST FOR RELEASE OF FUNDS
On or about April 15, 2021 the Karuk Tribe will submit a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the release of Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) funds under related laws (42 U.S.C. 5301, 24 CFR Part 1003, etc.), as amended, to undertake a project known as the “Anavkaam Center Renovation Project” in the community of Happy Camp, California. The Karuk Tribe is requesting a $1,500,000 grant from HUD ICDBG program to renovate and expand the Anavkaam Center (Translation: Big Medicine) building at the Karuk Tribe Administrative Complex.
