Millions of People, Hundreds of Groups Support Halting Fossil Fuel Leasing & Permitting on Public Lands, Oceans
WASHINGTON Environmental justice, Indigenous, climate and conservation groups from across the country announced today that they have delivered millions of petitions and public comments, and letters from hundreds of organizations, supporting a halt on new fossil fuel leasing and permitting on public lands and oceans.
Biden has promised to ‘ban’ new leasing and permitting activities. Calls to ban fracking on federal lands began in began in 2013 and expanded in 2015 to oppose all new fossil fuel leasing. Tamra Borchardt-Slayton stood outside the window of the hospital where her grandmother was being treated for COVID-19. Borchardt-Slayton was only able to wave at her grandmother before she was intubated.
“Currently, my grandmother’s in the ICU. We haven’t had any contact with her; it’s one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever had to deal with,” she said.

Montana’s well-known Chippewa Cree, Jonathan Windy Boy, has been inducted into the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame.
Windy Boy began dancing at just 2 years old at a pow wow in Fort Belknap and never looked back. He quickly took to pow wow and grass dance, competing through the 80s and 90s.
