Two new cases of COVID-19 reported in Akwesasne

Tuesday, April 6, 2021 - 5:09 pm AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 today (Tuesday, April 6), making eight total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. No community members were released from isolation and 18 family members and friends remain in quarantine. The Tribe’s Health Services is conducting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic this week for individuals with social or economic connections to the Akwesasne community. The walk-in vaccination clinic will be held at the former-IGA Building on Thursday, April 8 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., or until supplies last. The vaccine clinic is for individuals 18 years or older who are interested in receiving the Moderna vaccine. Non-native spouses of Tribal Members and Akwesasne employees who reside in Canada are also eligible to receive the vaccine. Written By: Pioneer Staff Report | 10:00 am, Mar. 10, 2021 × BEMIDJI Through a $5,000 donation from the Red Lake Nation, Bemidji State University’s Alumni and Foundation has purchased 54 stethoscopes for students enrolled in the university’s four-year track nursing program. “The Red Lake Nation has been a strong partner and we are grateful for their generous support,” Josh Christianson, executive director of university advancement, said in a release. Nursing students are required to purchase a stethoscope upon entering their sophomore year and, motivated to alleviate this financial burden, Department Chair and Professor of Nursing Dr. Marci Maple turned to her colleagues in the field.
