Police constables Manjunatha Y and Naganna, attached with the Varthur police station, were instructed to investigate burglaries in their jurisdiction and go behind leads, nab the accused and recover stolen booties. Manjunatha and Naganna on Tuesday received information from one of their informers that a suspicious man was lurking near the Ambedkar statue in Gunjurpalya in Varthur and was attempting to sell some jewellery, possibly stolen ones. Around 4:15pm, the two policemen in civil clothes rushed to the spot and started keeping a watch on the man from a distance. “The man had a bag and he was trying to sell some jewellery which looked antique, but was not gold,” a senior police officer said.
