Plans to build a new primary school have been approved by the Department of Education.
The school in Bridge Close will be opened by the Unity Schools Partnership, which runs St Edward’s Academy in London Road.
Unity Schools Partnership is also in the process of building a special school on the grounds of St Edward’s Academy as part of its plans to create an educational hub.

PETERSBURG The city of Petersburg and Petersburg City Public Schools will jointly take over management of the Petersburg City and Schools Partnership from the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, the school division announced Thursday.
Founded in 2015 as part of then-Gov. Terry McAuliffe s Children s Cabinet, the Partnership serves to facilitate student success in Petersburg by forming a coalition of non-profits and other community members and organizations. There are over 200 organizations and individuals that are part of the coalition.
When the Children s Cabinet dissolved in 2017, the United Way took over backbone support of the Partnership, and now that support and management responsibility officially fell to the school division and city government on January 20.
