MILLBURY Millbury Police Officer Keith Gasco, a Millbury High School graduate, described his new job as the district’s School Resource Officer as being like “a guidance counselor with a badge.’’
Appearing before the School Committee on March 24, Gasco was introduced as the replacement for outgoing School Resource Officer Nicole “Nikki” Oliveri, a 25-year veteran of the department, who ended her six-year stint as the district’s SRO after being promoted to sergeant.
At the meeting, Oliveri was presented with a plaque from the School Committee to thank her for all she has accomplished as the SRO. In accepting the award, Oliveri said the position “exceeded all my expectations. … We made something magical here.’’

MILLBURY Despite battling educational obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the school district’s midyear report card using the new i-Ready testing tool indicates student grade-level skills continue to improve.
I-Ready testing done last year provided a “benchmark’’ for student assessment so teachers could target and concentrate on specific student needs throughout the school year, instead of finding gaps at the end of the school year.
This data is even more important to analyze and target in real time’ throughout the school year due to the learning disruptions caused by COVID-19, School Superintendent Greg Myers told the School Committee on March 24.
