3 weeks ago in Local fwilt Photo: Saga Communications 3/10/21 Harrisonburg City Council approved a request last night from the Valley Mall to subdivide a nearly 39-acre parcel on East Market Street. The subdivision would create individual lots for the Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, Wells Fargo Bank and the rest of the mall and its parking lot. Adam Fletcher, Harrisonburg’s Director of Community Development, explained to the council that the Valley Mall requested two variances which would exempt it from having to build a sidewalk as well as the general utility easement requirements. Fletcher added that the city has already funded a project with the Virginia Department of Transportation that would construct sidewalks in those areas beginning in two years, which is why the city allowed the Valley Mall to deviate from the requirements
