NHPC has received the go-ahead to acquire the entire 2 per cent stake of PTC India in Chenab Valley Power Projects. Chenab Valley Power Projects is a joint venture company; NHPC holds 49 per cent in Chenab Valley Power Projects, whereas JKSPDC holds 49 per cent and PTC holds 2 per cent. Post the stake acquisition, NHPC s share in Chenab Valley Power Projects will increase to 51 per cent and it will become a majority stakeholder.

New Delhi: With an eye on Pakistan, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday increased the budgetary allocation of strategically important Pakul Dul hydropower project on Marusudar river, a tributary of Chenab by 61.25% to ₹602.53 crore for the next financial year.
The government plans to expedite the construction of the 1,000 megawatts (MW) project, which will be the first storage hydropower project in Jammu and Kashmir.
