VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Parks and Rec will be planting a number of trees at 9am in City Park. The community is invited to attend and celebrate the joy and benefits of trees.
One tree, an Autumn Splendor Buckeye, was donated by Jeff Moe, to remember his uncle, a long time resident, Lloyd Miller. Lloyd was very active member of the town, being involved in numerous organizations and on the Valley City Public School Board for 12 years.
Valley City has been recognized as a Tree City USA for a number of years. The Tree City USA program is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America. The communities that achieve this status meet four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
