MORRIS, MINN. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State baseball team finished out the regular season in style on Wednesday, hitting six home runs in a dominant 18-3 win at Minnesota-Morris.
The Vikings scored in each of the first five innings – taking a 14-2 lead – and ended the game by run rule after seven innings. VCSU finished with 17 hits in the game, and six pitchers combined to keep the Morris offense in check .
Valley City State ends the regular season with a 22-24 overall record and have won their last five games. The Vikings are the No. 3 seed for the NSAA Tournament starting Friday in Valley City. VCSU’s first round game is against No. 4 seed Waldorf University at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Reed Butz – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’2″ – Junior – pitcher – Rockford, Ill. – Butz tossed eight shutout innings as Valley City State (N.D.) went 4-1 record for the week. He pitched two shutout innings with two strikeouts, despite a 5-3 extra-innings setback at NCAA Division I North Dakota State. He followed up with a victory over Presentation (S.D.) after pitching six scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. For the week, Butz limited its opponents to .148 batting average (4 hits allowed) and tallied 13 strikeouts. He did not allow a run.
VALLEY CITY, N.D (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State swept the final edition of the North Star Athletic Association’s Softball Players of the Week. Emily Smith was named Pitcher of the Week and Jessica Husband was chosen as Player of the Week. It is the fifth time this season that the Vikings have swept the weekly honor.

Emily Smith – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’7″ – Senior – pitcher – Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada – Smith earned three victories on the week, including two shutouts as Valley City State (N.D.) went 6-0 record for the week. The Vikings claimed the North Star Athletic Association regular-season title as Smith tossed a complete game with 11 strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits in 9-1 victory at Mayville State (N.D.). VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Jorun Hamre broke the single-season home run record Sunday as the Valley City State baseball team completed a four-game sweep against Presentation College.
Hamre hit his 15th home run of the season in game one, breaking the VCSU record of 14 held by Bryan Swaenepoel (2001) and Stacy Fitterer (1989). Hamre’s blast highlighted a 5-4 victory in game one Sunday. In game two, Reed Butz pitched six shutout innings and the Vikings closed the series with a 10-0 win.
VCSU outscored Presentation College 51-17 over the four-game series. Valley City State is now 21-24 overall and finished 14-9 in conference play. Valley City State clinched the No. 3 seed for the NSAA Conference Tournament starting Friday in Valley City. The Vikings will face No. 4 seed Waldorf University in the first round, Friday at 5:30 p.m.

BISMARCK, N.D. – The brackets for the 2021 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Postseason Softball Tournament are set for May 6-8. Bellevue (Neb.) will be this year’s conference tournament host set. The tournament takes place at The Lied Center Field (2700 Arboretum Drive) in Bellevue, Neb. May 9 has been reserved as a weather make-up day
All eight teams will play in the NSAA Softball Postseason Conference Tournament, which feature a double elimination format. The seeding is based on the regular-season North Star conference record (winning percentage).
