VCSU establishing a new Coaches Hall of Fame | Valley City State University

Apr 20, 2021 Valley City State University is establishing a VCSU Coaches Hall of Fame with the intent of honoring alumni who have went on to successful and impactful coaching careers. Longtime VCSU coach Bill Osmon with one of his VCSU basketball teams. Inductees to the VCSU Coaches Hall of Fame will receive the Osmon Icon Award, which is named in recognition of longtime coach and athletic director Bill Osmon for his many years of dedicated service at Valley City State. Nominees must be a graduate of Valley City State University and must have contributed in a very outstanding and positive way to the coaching profession for a minimum of 10 years. Other criteria to be considered includes achievements as a coach; personal contributions to the ideal of sports; and outstanding character demonstrated through commitment to youth both on and off the field or court.

Beautification Committee To Host Pruning Seminars

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Beautification Committee, a sub-committee of the Valley City Commission, will be hosting two spring tree and shrub pruning seminars to celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. Both of the seminars are free and open to the public and will be taught by Mary O’Neill, Community Forestry Specialist for the North Dakota Forest Service Field Office in Lisbon. The first seminar will be held on the campus of Valley City State University at 1:30 pm. Interested parties should meet at the VCSU gazebo located just east of Graichen Gym on College Street SW. This seminar will focus on the safe and correct way to prune or cut back larger, more mature trees.

VCSU Hosting First Track Meet In Seven Years

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State University track and field team is scheduled to host its first track meet in seven years on Tuesday, April 20. The Vikings are hosting the Viking Twilight Meet at the recently renovated John and Diane Hill Track & Field Complex on the VCSU campus. The last collegiate meet hosted by VCSU was on May 9, 2014. Tuesday’s Twilight Meet will feature about four or five teams competing. Field events are scheduled to start at 3 p.m., and running events will follow at 4 p.m. There is no admission charge for fans. Live results and live video will be available.

David Woods | Valley City State University

By Garret Fettig, VCSU Student Writer Alaska and North Dakota alike boast freezing winters, beautiful scenery, and abundant natural wildlife, but Dr. David Woods noticed a difference all the same.   Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Woods flew into North Dakota for the first time in August 1998 to attend fall football practice at Valley City State University.   “I wore a nice, black Adidas tracksuit when I came to North Dakota,” he recalls. “When I came out of the Fargo airport it was 98 degrees, and I’d never been in heat like that. I quickly ran in, stripped off all of my clothes, and came out in shorts and a tank top. Much better.”
