Valley City State University will hold a spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15, to honor its graduating class during the 2021 spring semester. VCSU will recognize 318 graduates – 278 will receive bachelor’s degrees and 36 will receive master’s degrees. All graduates recognized at the Virtual Commencement Ceremonies in May 2020 and December 2020 are also invited back to participate in the face-to-face ceremony.

President LaFave will preside over the commencement exercises. Graduating senior, Peyton Halverson, will deliver the undergraduate reflection, and the faculty reflection will be presented by Kevin Murphy, assistant professor of mathematics.
Robert L. Bergeth
Robert (Bob) Lynn Bergeth, 82, of Elk River, MN, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, after a short illness, while at Mercy Hospital Unity Campus in Fridley. His Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, May 15th at Peace Lutheran Church in Devils Lake, ND. Interment will be in the city cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Bob was an avid sports fan, especially the Twins, Vikings and U of M Gophers. The day before he passed he watched the Vikings with his son, Todd, something they have done hundreds of times.

Who cares what you did in the regular season, what matters is what you do in the postseason. That’s what the Waldorf softball team is saying after taking the hard way to the final three of the North Star Athletic Association Tournament.
Waldorf came into the tournament as the 7th-seed after posting an 8-31 overall record; they were 6-21 in conference play.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSU) – President Alan LaFave announced the Valley City State University Faculty Excellence Awards for 2020–21, recognizing “exceptional dedication and commitment to students and the university by outstanding teaching, scholarly activities, or university service.”
This year’s recipients are Angela Williams, Senior Faculty (associate or full professor) award; Kenton Sandfoss, Junior Faculty (instructor or assistant professor) award; and Tim Michaelson, Adjunct/Special Appointment award.
Angela Williams, associate professor of kinesiology and human performance, has been a faculty member at VCSU since 2014. Williams holds a master of education degree from Valley City State University and a master of arts degree from Western Michigan University. Faculty members stated that Williams, “has been a consistent contributor in and out of the department as well as the campus community and beyond. VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State University athletic department recognized excellence in its student-athletes Monday night at the 2021 Viking Awards.
The annual banquet brings together most of the university’s student-athletes for a meal, awards and recognition of their accomplishments during the 2020-21 season. This year’s celebration was held outdoors at VCSU’s Lokken Stadium, and students were served a tailgate-style meal prepared by members of the VCSU Century Club Board of Directors.
Athletic director Jill DeVries emceed the event as VCSU announced its major athletic awards, honored its seniors and North Star Champions of Character, and celebrated numerous school record breakers during the night.
