Almost a week after Winter Storm Uri devastated Texas, a long line of hungry, thirsty students snaked around the University Co-op parking lot. It was 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, and though there was still snow on the ground and the temperature hovered just above freezing, the sun was shining. It was the first moderately nice morning since the storm came.
Everyone there was waiting to meet former UT quarterback Colt McCoy, BS ’09, and other volunteers who were handing out free tacos, snacks, water, and hygiene products. McCoy was joined by a few other familiar faces his former teammate Quan Cosby, BSW ’09, athletics director Chris Del Conte, and Texas’ new head football coach, Steve Sarkisian.

A few hundred people sat in the banquet room inside UT’s School of Law. The space was decorated in the vivid reds, blues, greens, pinks, and oranges that typify a Mexican-themed party. Lotería cards were scattered about the tables, and
papel picados depicting little flowers and animals hung on the walls. It was September 9, 2011, and everyone was here for a heck of a party. For the 10th time, members of Texas Exes’ Hispanic Alumni Network gathered for Fiesta, the group’s biggest fundraising event of the year. And it was a special one.

As Chief Information Security Officer, Peter Romano is responsible for the enterprise security and compliance vision, strategy, and roadmap to ensure eSentire information assets are protected and compliant with various privacy and statutory requirements. He is a security officer and people leader with expertise in the areas of mobile and cloud computing in high growth technical organisations. Over the course of 20+ years in security, he has overseen the creation of organisational capability that dramatically increased the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of internal IT and cloud service offerings.
What was your first job? As a student, I worked in fast food, and learned how to perfect the French fry through an elaborate three step process. A couple of other key take-aways include the importance of being thorough and having a customer-first mentality.
