City remembers Mahatma on Sarvodaya Day - Star of Mysore

Mysore/Mysuru: Singing of bhajans, all-religion prayer meeting and garlanding the bust of Mahatma Gandhi marked the observance of Sarvodaya Day (Martyr’s Day) in city this morning. It was on this day, 73 years ago, the Mahatma was assassinated in Delhi in 1948. As a mark of respect, Jan. 30 is observed as Sarvodaya Diwas. The function organised by University of Mysore (UoM) at Gandhi Bhavan was presided over by Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, UoM. Speaking on the occasion, he paid rich tributes to the Mahatma and termed him a universal legendary personality who had swayed the entire world through his peaceful agitation during the freedom struggle. Gandhiji, who is fondly called as ‘Bapu’ by millions of his followers, always believed in empowerment of last man in society.

College students must attend classes: Karnataka govt | Mysuru News

Representative image MYSURU: The Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) has made it mandatory for students to attend either online or offline classes without fail. According to the SoP released by the DCE on starting classes for the UG and PG students, attendance will be taken while conducting both online and offline classes. DCE joint director R Mugeshappa said students shall either attend online or offline classes. “Attending one of the two is must,” he said. “On Monday, we held a meeting of all the college principals where directions were issued to get in touch with all the students and ensure that they start attending offline classes,” he informed.

No classes yet for intermediate semesters of UG and PG courses

UoM VC calls meeting of College Principals on Jan. 18 Mysore/Mysuru: Offline classes for students of intermediate semesters for both Post-Graduate (PG) and Under-Graduate (UG) courses in degree, diploma and engineering did not commence in Mysuru today as the University of Mysore (UoM) has called a meeting of all Principals of its affiliated Colleges on Jan. 18.  The State Government had announced after a high-level meeting with officials of the Department of Higher Education recently that classes for intermediate semesters would begin from Jan. 15 along with hostels and libraries which were closed until now. While giving powers to the respective Universities to decide on the actual date to commence classes, Colleges were asked to restart sports, cultural activities and NCC and NSS training after chalking out Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

State will implement NEP in current year: Minister

Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka will implement the much-publicised National Education Policy (NEP) from current academic year and all necessary arrangements have been made in this regard, said Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan. He was speaking after virtually inaugurating National Seminar on ‘Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in Karnataka’ organised by Karnataka Rajya Mahavidyalaya Shikshak Sangha – Mysore University Vibhaga; University of Mysore (UoM), Mysuru; Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru; Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Bengaluru; Centre for Educational and Social Studies, Bengaluru’ held at Vijnana Bhavan, Manasagangothri, here on Saturday.
