Dear members of the UMaine and UMM communities,
Earlier this week, we had an exciting look at the future of UMaine athletics that will change our landscape and shape our student experience for generations. As one of the four initiatives made possible by the $240 million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation, we are going to build outstanding facilities to support our student-athletes, campus recreation enthusiasts and youth statewide â our future Black Bears. University of Maine System campuses are planning on holding virtual graduation ceremonies this spring as uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic continues and the safety of large gatherings remains in question.
University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias President Joan Ferrini-Mundy announced the plans for those campuses to hold virtual ceremonies in a message to students Wednesday.

University of Maine System campuses are planning on holding virtual graduation ceremonies this spring as uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic continues and the safety of large gatherings remains in question.
University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias President Joan Ferrini-Mundy announced the plans for those campuses to hold virtual ceremonies in a message to students Wednesday.
“In September, we noted our intention to honor both our 2020 and 2021 graduates with in-person commencement ceremonies this spring if health and safety guidance allows,” Ferrini-Mundy wrote. “But since then, as the pandemic has unfolded and continues here in Maine and beyond, it has become clear that we will not be able to safely gather for these celebrations in the way we had hoped. Dear members of the UMaine and UMM communities,
It has been another memorable week for our universities and the state, beginning with COVID-19 testing on campus on Monday. At UMaine, weâve had five particularly successful days of phase six testing, thanks to the exceptional dedication of the many staff members and students working at our two testing sites on campus. They have worked countless hours to ensure the safety and efficiency of the Shield T3 testing, and those students and employees who came for their appointments noted their appreciation. Tri-Town Bookmobile visiting libraries
Maine School Administration District 60 will participate in a “Take Your Child to the Library Day” event this Saturday, featuring visits by the the Tri-Town Bookmobile to three participating public libraries in the district. The bookmobile will visit the D. A. Hurd Library, the Berwick Public Library, and the Martha Sawyer Community Library in Lebanon for a “stuff the bus” food drive. Non-perishable items collected from the D. A. Hurd Library and the Martha Sawyer Community Library will benefit the MSAD 60 Backpack Program. Items collected from the Berwick Public Library will benefit the Berwick/Somersworth food pantry. (The D. A. Hurd Library is currently a collection location for the North Berwick food pantry.) Curbside service to borrow books and free WiFi access will be available from the TTB and the public libraries. Curbside crafts to go will also be available.
