Man killed in vehicle crash on July 26 in Farmington

Officers were dispatched around 9:21 a.m. on July 26 on reports of a rollover crash. Police say the car left the roadway near the right-turn lane of East Broadway Avenue, just before the intersection of Murray Drive and Broadway.  The vehicle then traveled south across a dirt area and became airborne over Murray Drive while continuing south, according to the news release. The car then rolled into the parking lot in front of the ECHO Inc. administration office at 1921 E. Murray Drive, according to Farmington Police spokesperson Nicole Brown. Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Roger Olguin Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man shot by police faces charges, accused of pointing gun at cop

Brian Benally, 29, is accused of a third-degree felony count of aggravated assault on a peace officer, a fourth-degree felony count of felon in possession of a firearm and five petty misdemeanor counts of negligent use of a deadly weapon, according to the criminal complaint. The defendant is listed in critical condition at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. A review of New Mexico court records show Benally has multiple felony convictions including vehicle theft. FARMINGTON The man shot by Farmington police on May 10 faces multiple charges for allegedly pointing a handgun at an officer. He is also accused of firing 25 rounds from a .40 caliber pistol while walking in the downtown area before police located him.

The two crimes, which left one person dead and sent two to the hospital, occurred within a week last month. Now, city officials, Santa Fe police and Rail Runner staff have come together to tackle public safety at the stations. Last week, the parties had a cooperative meeting to devise a game plan to increase security at the stations. ...................... Augusta Meyers, spokeswoman for Rail Runner Express, said the service plans on upgrading the camera systems at the Santa Fe stations to high-definition versions. Rail Runner is also trying to figure out how to give Santa Fe police live access to the stations’ camera feeds.
