SC State University added to IBM s HBCU Quantum initiative

The IBM-HBCU Quantum Center is a multi-year investment of resources to develop HBCU students at HBCU across the nation to create a more diverse quantum-ready workforce. These courses that IBM has made available to us allow SC State to enhance all of the offerings we already had, said South Carolina State University President James E. Clark. For SC State University Students like Ramon Lavender, the partnership gives him access to IBM quantum computers on the cloud and more career opportunities.

Dr. Joel Stake, senior lecturer in Louisiana Tech’s School of Biological Sciences, shared early in winter quarter his experience concerning the challenges and successes of teaching in a virtual classroom during the pandemic. BRIDGETOWN The Caribbean is a multicultural, multiethnic, multi-religious, multilingual region. The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM-1973) was initially a group of former British colonies. Today, CARICOM is a grouping of 20 countries: 15 member states and five associate members. The islands of St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas remained under Danish rule until 1917. They were then purchased by the United States and became the U.S. Virgin Islands, a territory of the United States. The majority black population of approximately 110,000 people mirrors that of most of the former British CARICOM countries, blended with a Puerto Rican and Hispanic cultural influence. There are diasporic linkages on the U.S. mainland and strong family ties between the people of CARICOM, the wider Caribbean, and the people of the USVI.

The man had been living with chronic diseases, including diabetes, and was on dialysis. He used a wheelchair to get around. When he developed a fever and shortness of breath last April, he tried to get tested for Covid-19, Nunez-Smith said, without success. Within 24 hours, he was dead. Tests later confirmed he did, in fact, have SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
