It s Election Day, and polls will open at 6am. The consolidated election chooses many of your local lawmakers, including mayors, aldermen or trustees, school board members, and others. Early voting numbers have been weak across the region.
Wood River has one of the more crowded tickets, with a sometimes-contentious mayoral race up for grabs, and six candidates running for the two spots open on the city council. It’s a busy ticket in Alton as well, with several contested aldermanic seats as well as the mayor’s race. It’s the same story in Godfrey, with races for Mayor, Village Clerk, and Trustees. There are more contested races in places like Brighton, Grafton, Hartford, Roxana, and South Roxana. One of the local referenda involves the Godfrey Fire Protection District, which is asking voters to support a bond issue to pay for a new firehouse.
