Full Quota of Flying Fifteens Take Advantage of DBSC Training Session 28th May 2021 DBSC Flying fifteen duo Ben Mulligan and Cormac Bradley (file photo) Credit: Afloat Like all DBSC members, the offer of training races for race committee members and competitors alike, has been a welcome feature for the Flying Fifteen fleet in these opening days of the 2021 summer sailing season. Last night saw the full quota of Fifteens out on the water for what turned out to be a very interesting evening. As with all “training events” there are lessons to be learned, the first of which, for this correspondent, was – take a course card with you. My flawed understanding was that the Fifteens would be sailing windward/leeward courses on a Thursday night and that seemed to be the consensus when we arrived at the start area. However, what evolved was slightly different but most welcome.

Women on the Water J80 Crews Back in Action at National Yacht Club 24th May 2021 File image from the 2019 Women at the Helm regatta Sailing will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, in two series of one week each to prepare for DBSC racing which is planned to run until 25 September. Interest is high so the NYC encourages anyone who wants to sail to act quickly. Sailing is organised by Women on the Water but is open to all members and new crew are always welcome. Coaches are on board but some sailing experience is required in order to race. If you’re interested in joining up, text Caitriona O’Brien on 087 232 7748.

The British Dragon Association welcomes a historic entry to this year s Edinburgh Cup

Dragon Bluebottle © Helen Pugh, Edinburgh The beloved keelboat of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh Bluebottle has undergone a momentous restoration and a road trip to now complete the Royal fleet in Edinburgh. On completion of the full restoration of this iconic racing yacht in Cowes, Bluebottle has become the very first entry to this year s British Dragon Association (BDA) Edinburgh Cup, national championships. Built by Camper and Nicholson in 1947, Bluebottle was presented to Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince Philip as a wedding present by the Island Sailing Club, Isle of Wight. In 1956 Bluebottle was loaned to the British sailing team competing at the Melbourne Olympics, with Lt Cdr Graham Mann at the helm, winning a Bronze Medal, the only British Dragon to have done so.

The partnership involves Paul attending many of Grafham Water SC s major racing events in 2021 including the Optimist Inlands, Topper National Series, RS inlands, Laser Masters, and the Windsurfing, Merlin-Rocket, Flying Fifteen and Solo open meetings. The images captured will be available to buy through the club s new online photo-gallery, as well as being featured in the club s race reports and website.
