One of these drugs, a cancer drug called VE800, addresses a challenge that may commonly occur with microbiome-engaging cancer immunotherapeutics. The problem is variability in microbiome signatures. Vedanta’s CEO, Bernat Olle, PhD, says that with cancer, there is no “night and day type of signature” like that seen with Clostridium difficile infections. Olle suggests that overcoming this problem will require big data sets, big sample sizes, and multiomic analyses.
