Homes plan for historic pub that shut during the Covid pandemic

A HISTORIC pub that closed down due to the pandemic could be turned to housing to “ensure the building’s survival.” The Hermit Inn in Burley Woodhead was named after a local eccentric who lived in a hut on Ilkley Moor, and dates back to the 18th century. Late last year the pub, on Moor Road, announced that due to the pressures of the pandemic it would not be re-opening. Now a planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council to convert the building into two houses. The application, by Gillian Kelly, says the pub’s taking had been declining even before the pandemic, and there had been little interest from any buyers in buying the remote hostelry.

Flood easing from Apperley Bridge to Calverley | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

Apperley Bridge pictured following recent heavy rain PLANS for a flood easing scheme at Apperley Bridge have been submitted to Bradford Council. The proposal, for land adjacent to the River Aire between Calverley Bridge and Apperley Bridge, includes flood defences. Step Two of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Phase 2 would include a Flood Storage Reservoir, with plant and machinery, and flood defences to include walls, sheet piling, earth bunds, scour protection and associated access, landscaping, demolition, building and construction works. The granting of planning permission does not affect owners’ rights to retain or dispose of their property, unless there is some provision to the contrary in an agreement or in a lease.
