BIRMINGHAM, AL Severe thunderstorms caused flooding in Jefferson County this past week, namely in Mountain Brook and Cahaba Heights. The storms caused thousands of power outages and closed multiple streets in the Birmingham metro. Also in the news this past week, an announcement was made that the Sidewalk Film Festival will return to downtown Birmingham for 2021, after last year s festival was held in Leeds. Birmingham PD: Man in hospital after shooting in on 1st Street Southwest

Updated: 7:52 PM CDT May 5, 2021 WVTM 13 Digital One man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in south Birmingham Wednesday afternoon.Birmingham Police say south precinct officers responded to the 700 block of 1st Street Southwest shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a person shot. At the scene, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.The man was taken to the hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
