A PRIMARY school is pleased to have had a group if its teachers recognised at a county-wide awards scheme celebrating teaching excellence. The Essex Teaching Awards group has recognised the teaching staff at Burnham Primary School for their efforts during the pandemic. Adam Patterson, Tamsin Morton, Alex Russ and Hannah Tavner have been mentioned in the nominations. The award-winning school is now working towards becoming a centre for excellence under the Government scheme. Headteacher Kelly Stock expressed how proud she is of the pupils and staff and is appreciative of the many parents and carers who have nominated the school for these awards.
A SCHOOLGIRL raised hundreds of pounds on an ‘ultra mini’ marathon dressed in festive gear. Five-year-old Lola Parks, of Marsh Road, Burnham, is a Year 1 student at Burnham Primary School and wanted to help her mum raise money towards the school’s new playground equipment project. Lola dressed up as Santa, laced up her running shoes and jogged 5km around the town last Friday. While on the run, she also became a secret Santa by choosing ten random houses and taking them a small treat, much to the delight of unsuspecting residents. Lola managed to raise £1,030, smashing her £1,000 target, thanks to the massive surge of community support.
