A Grand Rapids man is in stable condition after police shot him in Howell Township Tuesday morning.
According to tweets from the Michigan State Police, officers were in the area of Milett Road between Layton Road and Marketplace Drive looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle following a traffic crash early Tuesday morning.
A state trooper located a 20-year-old Grand Rapids man who matched the suspect s description, according to a state police Twitter post.
Police said the incident took place around 9:45 a.m.
The man was armed and showed a gun when the trooper shot him, according to Michigan State Police Public Information Officer Lt. Brian Oleksyk. The man was transported to a local hospital and is stable condition, he said.

A potential plea deal is being negotiated for a former Livingston County resident charged with making threats against Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and Senator Debbie Stabenow as well as a separate gun charge.
63-year-old Daniel Thompson, formerly of Gregory but now living in Harrison, was charged in February with three counts of malicious use of service provided by a telecommunications service provider.
The Michigan Attorney Generalâs office alleges that Thompson left threatening messages for U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow on Jan. 5 from Livingston County and made vulgar and threatening remarks in a phone conversation with a member of Congresswoman Elissa Slotkinâs office on Jan. 19th from Clare County. A third charge alleges Thompson made a previous threatening call to Rep. Slotkin from Livingston County on April 30th of 2020.

A Fowlerville man who tried to flee after initiating a police pursuit has been charged.
28-year-old Alex Graham is charged with fleeing and eluding, felonious assault, resisting and obstructing, and having open intoxicants in a vehicle following the incident that started around 2pm Sunday, March 7th.
A Livingston County Sheriff s deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2004 Ford F350 for multiple equipment violations while it was traveling on Bowen Road near Burkhart Road in Howell Township. Police said Grahamâs suspect vehicle immediately accelerated at a high rate of speed and failed to stop. A chase ensued, with the deputy terminating the pursuit on Crandall Road near Marr Road. Witnesses reported seeing Grahamâs vehicle and approximately 10 minutes later, deputies were able to locate the vehicle at Oak Grove Road and Cohoctah Road. Graham again failed to stop and fled southbound on Oak Grove Road and turned onto Chas
