OXFORD, Miss. – Florida State (31-23) will be playing for its season the rest of the way in the Oxford Regional after falling to host Ole Miss (43-19) 4-3 Saturday evening in front of 10,830 fans at Swayze Field. The Seminoles will play Southern Miss in an elimination game Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. CHARLOTTE – Florida State dropped its Atlantic Coast Conference Championship opener Wednesday, falling 12-1 to Duke at Truist Field in Charlotte. Robby Martin had two of FSU’s four hits, including his 11th home run of the season, but Duke scored five runs in the first inning and kept FSU at a distance all game.

Bryce Hubbart (6-5) did not record an out in his Championship debut and Duke’s first five runners scored. The Blue Devils (29-20) pushed its lead to 6-0 before Martin’s solo home run in the fourth inning. Duke responded with three runs in the fifth and three more in the ninth inning to provide the final margin.
FSU used nine pitchers in the game, with Tyler Ahearn pitching the longest at 2.2 innings.
Tyler Martin led off the game with a double and was hit by a pitch. Elijah Cabell singled and Jackson Greene drew FSU’s only walk of the game in the eighth inning.

On Monday, Florida State became the first school in league history to win Player, Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in the same season. Catcher Mat Nelson, the nation’s leader in home runs with 22, was named Player of the Year, joining Buster Posey as the only Seminole catchers to earn the honor. Parker Messick, who will throw Friday against Miami in the ACC Championship, was named Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, joining Carlos Rodon (2012, NC State) as the only players to earn both in the same season.
Nelson and Messick earned first team All-ACC honors, while Bryce Hubbart and outfielder Robby Martin were named to the third team. Messick and Hubbart were also on the ACC’s All-Freshman Team.
