A young driver panicked when police tried to pull his car over on January 28 because he was on bail at the time and banned from driving, his lawyer told Melbourne Magistrates Court.

He then allegedly fled the scene following the crash, with the car later found dumped on Ashworth Street in Albert Park without a number plate.
Mr O Donnell was interviewed by detectives and charged with a number of offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, failing to stop on police request, reckless exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, contravening a conduct condition of bail, committing an indictable offence while on bail, driving in a manner dangerous, driving while disqualified, careless driving, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and driving a vehicle causing loss of traction.
