Inhabitants of Mhada s transit camps owe Rs 130 crores in rent arrears. On February 3, the housing board launched this Abhay Scheme in view of the economic crisis that had engulfed citizens in the wake of the Covid-19 lockdown. Under the plan, Mhada s Mumbai repair and reconstruction board announced a 60% interest rebate for residents of its 21,149 transit camps. The first phase which ended February 28 netted a robust sum of Rs 3.85 crore, said board chairman Vinod Ghosalkar.

Mhada lottery at Bandra in Mumbai MUMBAI: The long awaited redevelopment of the city s Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawls finally got off the ground Thursday. Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) conducted a lottery to allot apartments to eligible tenants of the old, dilapidated structures in Lower Parel. However the construction of the buildings is yet to begin. The entire project constitutes the largest resettlement undertaking in the country given the sprawl of these old buildings in South Mumbai. This particular lottery was drawn for 272 tenants of the five hectare BDD Chawl plot at NM Joshi Marg, Lower Parel.
