Biotech Farms gets tax perks for P1 33B hogs expansion – Manila Bulletin

Published April 24, 2021, 7:01 AM Biotech Farms, Inc. is investing P1.33 billion to expand its annual hogs production capacity by 48 percent to help address the huge shortage of meat products in the country caused by the African Swine Flu on local piggery farms.  The Board of Investments has already approved the grant of tax incentives, including income tax holiday, to Biotech, which piggery farm is located in South Cotabato. According to the BOI, Biotech Farms will boost annual production by 48 percent to 169,000 hogs (16,900,000 kg) once the expansion project starts commercial operation in April next year. The expansion includes the construction of a new 2,500 sow-level piggery farm to be located at its existing swine production facility in South Cotabato which has a current capacity of 114,400 hogs (11.44 million kg).

BoI approves P2.8-B investments © Provided by BusinessWorld The Board of Investments (BoI) on Friday said it had approved one renewable energy and two agriculture projects worth P2.8 billion in the Philippines. In a statement, the agency said it had given the go-signal to Mindoro Harvest Energy Co., Inc. to build an eight-megawatt biomass power plant project worth P1.22 billion in the province. It also approved Biotech Farms, Inc.’s P1.33-billion plan to expand its live hog production in South Cotabato, as well as Axelum Resources Corp.’s  P270-million project on coconut milk powder in Misamis Oriental. BoI Managing Head Ceferino S. Rodolfo said resource-based industries such as power and agribusiness are the most resilient during the coronavirus pandemic.

South Cotabato firm ships 2,000 hogs to ease tight pork supply, prices in MM

QUEZON CITY, Feb. 17 Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar led DA officials in ushering the arrival of 2,000 live hogs from Biotech Farms in South Cotabato on February 17, 2021 at the Vitas Port, Pier 18, in Tondo, Manila. “We have monitored the situation from February 8 up until now, and the average daily volume of hogs that have reached Metro Manila is 4,560 heads, compared doon sa ini-slaughter at 4,000 hogs daily. We have more than enough hogs,” Secretary Dar said. “We have seen many of the wet markets and the supermarkets have now adjusted their prices within the ceiling,” he added. The shipment is part of the sustained efforts of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to augment the supply of pork and eventually lower the prices of pork in Metro Manila.
