WREXHAM Council is encouraging people to apply for a number of current job opportunities in its Corporate Parenting Service. The authority has posts for social workers, assistant team managers, family support workers and a recruitment and training officer. City Hires New Fire Chief

The City of Kenora has hired Kent Readman as its next fire chief. He replaces Todd Skene who retires in June. Readman comes from the Dryden Fire Service where he is the Fire Chief and Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the Dryden Fire Service. Readman has served his profession in the capacity of Volunteer Firefighter, Captain, Training Officer, Director of Emergency Services, Health and Safety Coordinator, Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief. He is an Adjunct Instructor with the Ontario Fire College. “I am really looking forward to joining the team in Kenora. The City has progressive and supportive leadership and the City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Service is a highly dedicated group committed to protecting the residents and visitors of the city. The fire service in north western Ontario is a close-knit community and I’m excited to continue to be a part of that” stated Chief Readman.

Ship simulator is a hit with Birkenhead sea cadets

Sea Cadets in Birkenhead have built a ship simulator to help them master their navigation skills during lockdown An enterprising group of young people and volunteers in Wirral have made good use of their time during lockdown to convert a disused office space into an interactive ship simulator. The 15 square metre space boasts a state-of-the-art sound system, bull s-eye windows (portholes) and red glow navigation lights so that sea cadets can experience what it’s like to navigate at night. Mike Larsen, Commanding Officer for the Birkenhead Unit said: “With many of our cadets taking part in an online navigation course during lockdown, we wanted to give them the opportunity to get a more ‘hands on’ experience of what it’s like to navigate different vessels around the globe.
