Ask a Travel Nerd: What Changed While I Was Ignoring Travel?

Ask a Travel Nerd: What Changed While I Was Ignoring Travel? NerdWallet 1 hr ago Sam Kemmis © Getty Images If you ve been checked out from travel during the last year, you ll find there s been some big changes like a rental car shortage and no airline change fees. Listen, I don’t blame you for ignoring travel industry news during the pandemic. Who cares if Hilton went bankrupt (it didn’t) or Alaska Airlines joined some alliance (it did) when you aren’t traveling? If it wasn’t my job, I would ve tuned out that stuff, too. However, many under-the-radar changes did significantly alter the travel landscape in 2021. Beyond the obvious more cleaning, more masks other updates rippled throughout the industry, including smaller fees and new credit card perks.

Ask a Travel Nerd: Should I Be Loyal to a Single Airline?

KXLY April 21, 2021 5:00 AM Sam Kemmis Posted: Updated: Getty Images The pandemic has been hard on all relationships, and you might be asking yourself that all-important question: Should you be loyal, or play the field? I’m talking about airline loyalty, of course. Sticking with one airline carries lots of perks, from accruing miles to earning elite status. But air travel monogamy isn’t right for everyone. Some travelers, especially those who fly infrequently or out of diverse airports, might benefit from a more freewheeling approach, chasing whichever airline offers the lowest fares on a given route. There’s also the big question of which airline is best, both in general and for your specific airport. You don’t want to get stuck in a relationship with some skeezy, deadbeat airline.
