Award-winning Hoover teacher charged with sexual abuse

An award-winning Hoover teacher has been arrested on a felony sex charge.
Vincent Joseph Chiaramonte, 41, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse/forcible compulsion. He is a teacher at the Riverchase Career Connection Center (RC3) but has been on leave since the investigation began almost a year ago.
Efforts to locate an attorney who could comment on Chiaramonte’s behalf weren’t immediately successful.
According to Hoover police, the investigation began May 31, 2020. Chiaramonte was initially arrested on a misdemeanor charge through Hoover Municipal Court. He was placed on leave in June 2020.

HOOVER, AL The 2020-21 school year has posed a bevy of challenges for teachers, administrators and students alike, as the coronavirus pandemic has forced students to change the way they face their school days. This can have a profound effect on the mental health of students, which is why 28 teachers from Bumpus Middle School in Hoover have been certified as Youth Mental Health Aiders.
The training helps to equip faculty and staff to better identify mental health challenges students may face, tips for approaching them and providing reassurance and information and referral to professional help, if needed.
