On February 13, 2021, David passed away in his home with his beautiful bride by his side. David was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February of 2020 and fought hard to overcome this horrible disease. His fighting spirit and positive attitude inspired the many lives he touched during his illness. The focus of this memoriam will not be on his illness. The focus here forward will be squarely on the beautiful and witty person that is David Wayne Metz.
David Wayne Metz was born in Amityville, New York, on October 5, 1951. His father, David Wittington Metz, was the sole provider and rock for David and his two brothers. David was the middle son, with older brother James Wittington Metz and his baby brother Thomas âPee Weeâ Metz.
UPDATE: After again hearing from parents upset about their plan to keep schools closed through the end of the year, Pawtucket School Committee members on Tuesday ultimately voted to gradually bring students back for in-person learning.
The vote came less than a month after school board members rejected the superintendent s reopening plan and voted to stay in distance learning through the final months of the 2020-2021 school year.
The COVID-conditional plan calls for grades 1-6 to come back beginning March 1, grades 7-8 to return March 15, and high school students to return to a hybrid model on March 29.
PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket School Committee was set to host another discussion Tuesday night, Feb. 9, about whether to reopen schools again at some point this year, but Chairman Jay Charbonneau, pictured, said in advance that he didn’t expect the committee to change its previous votes to stay closed.
Pawtucket schools remain remote and parents are furious
PAWTUCKET Twelve months into the pandemic, Pamela Ramsey’s 6-year-old son has had it with remote learning.
“Right now he’s underneath my kitchen table refusing to get on the computer,” she said Friday morning. “The teachers are trying. They are doing the best they can with what they have. But it’s not working for him.”
Christopher Jr. is behind grade level in reading. He can’t keep up with his teacher, which only underscores his frustration.
“He looks at me and says, ‘I’ll do my work when I go to school,” and I say, ‘Touché.’ ”
