Gaston, N.C. When Northside High – the one in Pinetown, not Jacksonville – opened in 1999 and went to its first state championship game the very next season, it would’ve been easy to think the Panthers might make it a common occurrence.
It took 20 seasons, but Northside is making its first return trip.
The Panthers pounced on reigning 1A East regional champ Northampton County, dethroning the Jaguars 47-6 on Friday night.
Northside will be playing in next Saturday’s state championship game against Murphy, a 24-14 winner over fellow 1A powerhouse Robbinsville in the West regional.
Randolph County has administered more than 58,880 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of April 27, according to data from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
That s up 5% from the previous week s tally of 55,982 COVID-19 doses administered.

The amount of football programs in North Carolina that are consistently good from year-to-year means that we get a good amount of continuity in the later rounds of the playoffs.
With the amount of time between the fall 2019 season and the spring 2021 season combined with the amount of the state s top seniors enrolling in college early, it was fair to wonder if this season would be an opportunity for increased parity and some new teams at the top.
That has happened to a degree, but many of the same teams still find themselves deep into the postseason.
