Clemson City Council unanimously approved signing a no-cost, 10-year lease to take over operations of Twelve Mile Recreation Area on Lake Hartwell.
The city s parks and recreation department will handle care and maintenance for the lakefront park, which has a beach area, picnic tables, boat launch and RV camping spots. The Army Corps of Engineers still owns the property.
While the Corps is not charging an annual rental fee, the city estimates it will cost about $122,000 a year to maintain the park, according to city documents. The city will install a new gate and hopes to hire volunteers to serve as overnight attendants in the RV lots.
