March 17, 2021 Snow is set to drop on Massachusetts on Friday, although a warmup promised by the National Weather Service afterward may be a small consolation. The service predicts that rain will turn to snow on Thursday night, and most of the state will see between 1 and 3 inches. “Can’t rule out some 4-5 [inch] totals but cold air probably arrives a bit too late for those higher amounts,” the service said on Twitter. “Other story is strong NE winds. 40-50 mph gusts possible near coast.” Portions of Cape Cod and Nantucket are expected to see the strongest wind gusts, with predictions between 45 and 50 miles per hour. In Boston, the wind is expected to hit between 30 and 35 miles per hour.
