A MAJOR £80 million scheme to help regenerate Dudley town centre has moved a step closer after clearing another hurdle. Members of Dudley Council unanimously agreed to spend more than £800,000 on works to help move the Portersfield site regeneration forward, at a meeting on Monday (April 19). The huge project will cost around £82 million and promises to deliver 347 residential units, 200 student digs, up to 10,000 square feet of retail and leisure space as well as a 38,000 square feet Ice Rink Centre. On April 1, the authority’s cabinet had already agreed to partner with developers Avenbury (Dudley) and provide £420,000 funding to develop and submit a planning application for the scheme.

A HUGE £82 million scheme to bring new homes, shops and an ice rink to Dudley Town Centre has moved a step closer. Dudley Council has agreed to fork out £420,000 develop and submit a new planning application, in partnership with developers Avenbury (Dudley), to redevelop the Portersfield site. The proposal promises to see 347 residential units, 200 student digs, up to 10,000 square feet of retail and leisure space and a 38,000 square feet Ice Rink Centre introduced. It is part of a wider £1 billion major redevelopment of the town centre, which also includes a £24.5 million new leisure centre, a £24 million transport interchange, improvements to Dudley Zoo and Castle and the extension of the Midland Metro.
