GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday stated that during police investigation it has been revealed that the illicit drugs are smuggled to Assam from the Golden Triangle which comprises parts of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand.
He was replying to a written (un-starred) question by AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury in the Assembly House.
In his reply, the CM underlined that the drug contrabands seized in the State are smuggled from neighbouring States. Drugs like heroin and brown sugar are produced in the Golden Triangle and are smuggled to Assam from Myanmar through the Manipur-Mizoram border. From Assam, the drugs are transported to other States of the country, said Sarma.

GUWAHATI: Raijor Dal s President and MLA of Sivasagar constituency Akhil Gogoi took oath as a MLA of 15th Assam Legislative Assembly.
The oath was administered by pro-tem speaker Phani Bhushan Choudhury.
Gogoi was brought to the Assembly House by security personnel under tight security in the early hours of the day.
It is to be mentioned here that the Sivasagar MLA was bought to the Assembly from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in a bus and was taken back to the hospital later in the day after the oath taking ceremony.
