Enoch’s Recording Angel may not give Narendra Modi credit for many things, but the Prime Minister can never be accused of corruption. Rahul Gandhi’s slogan in 2019, ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ was a flop. Now he is back, after a French judge opened a probe into the Rafale deal, which our esteemed former CJI and BJP-nominated MP Ranjan Gogoi deemed as spotless as his reputation. Since ideas and personalities occur twice in history, Rahul is history’s victim. The Bofors Scandal slogan that doomed his father Rajiv Gandhi in the late 1980s ‘Gali gali mein shor hai, Rajiv Gandhi chor hai!’ is being redirected in another form at another prime minister. The braggadocio is Rahul’s redemption. Inquiries have found no evidence that Rajiv took a payoff.

The Illiberality of Modern Ideas
In actual modern Europe a freethinker does not mean a man who thinks for himself. It means a man who, having thought for himself, has come to one particular class of conclusions, the material origin of phenomena, the impossibility of miracles, the improbability of personal immortality and so on. And none of these ideas are particularly liberal. Nay, indeed almost all these ideas are definitely illiberal, as it is the purpose of this chapter to show.
Chesterton proposes that on every matter insisted upon by the modern (for his time, and more so in our time) liberals, these will result in the illiberalizing of social practice. Keeping in mind that this book was written in 1908, when Europe was at its peak in terms of realizing classical liberal ideas, Chesterton presciently saw where this road would lead. This is noted in Jacques Barzun’s work, From Dawn to Decadence:
We Will Always Love You: The Avalanches Return. Again The Australian duo unpack their triumphant third album.
Itâs been just four years since
The Avalanches last graced us with new material â a timeframe that would hardly seem noteworthy for most artists, but The Avalanches arenât really your average band.
After the 16-year gap between their legendary debut, Since I Left You , and 2016âs Wildflower , fans could have been forgiven for anticipating a similar wait for a follow up. But in a year where small joys have been in short supply, their sooner-than-expected return has proven to be a joyous affair.
