Highlights IMA has accused him of defaming allopathy and modern scientific medicines NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has slapped yoga guru Swami Ramdev with a Rs 1,000 crore defamation notice for his controversial remarks about allopathy,  scientific medicine and their use in treating COVID-19. The defamation notice to Baba Ramdev has been issued by the Uttarakhand chapter of the IMA – the apex body of Indian doctors.     The IMA notice states that if Ramdev doesn t post a video countering the statements given by him and tender a written apology within the next 15 days, then a sum of Rs 1,000 crore will be demanded from him.

IMA state unit, President Dr Ajay Khanna said that a letter has been sent to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary on Monday evening in this regard. In the letter, it is written that there is a lot of resentment among the IMA doctors against the statement of Baba Ramdev. The Union Health Minister has also sent a notice to Ramdev on the same stating that the statement is considered incorrect , Dr Khanna told ANI.

The announcement of his death came at a time when Ramdev is courting controversy for deriding allopathy and its role in the pandemic. In a statement, Patanjali stated that the company had no role in Bansal’s allopathic treatment. “However we were concerned and used to ask for his well-being from his wife,” the Haridwar-based firm said.
