PRINCETON – Three people from Indiana are dead after a crash on Interstate 80 in Bureau County on Thursday. The Illinois State Police say a car was traveling westbound near mile-marker 40 around 2:40 PM when for unknown reasons it struck the rear of a slowed or stopped tractor trailer. The three occupants, all from the state of Indiana, were killed. Identities were not released, but authorities confirmed a 26-year-old male, a 22-year-old female, and a 1-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the Bureau County Coroner.

PRINCETON – A bridge carrying a rural road over an interstate in Bureau County is being closed due to needing repair. On Monday the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the 645 East Road bridge over I-80 north of Sheffield had failures on its deck and could not be safely repaired to reopen to traffic. Authorities say temporary repairs were made under the bridge to protect traffic from debris. Replacement of the structure may take until 2025.
