Medway councillors to consider trial of 20mph speed limit zone in pilot scheme to improve road safety

The first steps toward introducing a towns-wide 20mph speed limit zone have been taken in a bid to reduce injuries and deaths on the roads.
Councillors say a pilot scheme across Medway needs to start and the idea will now be put to the authority s cabinet to decide whether to accept the proposals.

Support was agreed after a cross-party scrutiny committee met to consider a proposal by Labour opposition members to establish a pilot zone.
The stores were also found to have no signage at the entrance for social distancing and no social distancing requirements between staff and customers. The Abergavenny store was found to have no signage at the entrace for maximum capacity. The owner of both stores, Becks Yaman, said he had been working tirelessly in the coronavirus pandemic to keep people safe. Mr Yaman said: I have worked hard for the local community and to keep the business going during the pandemic. I was not around at the time of inspection but have spoken to the council about it. Kotch Kebab on Cross Street was also handed an improvement notice on January 29.

A 55-year-old man was robbed of his £10,000 hand-made gold watch and broke his hip during an attack in Maidstone.
Weeks later, Jason Orwin died in a separate incident and another man is facing a murder trial at a later date, Maidstone Crown Court heard.

During the first attack, Mr Orwin was thrown to the ground and as he lay writhing in agony was told by one of his attackers: Give me your watch or I will cut your throat!
After the robbery, two men were arrested after police tracked their movements on CCTV and caught them sharing a fist pump.

Cargill’s Cedar Rapids rail yard is expected to be operational by November, officials involved with the project shared during a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting was scheduled by Cargill to give residents an update on the construction timeline and an opportunity to provide feedback on the design and placement of the sound berm, as well as tree and vegetation types.
The 12-track, 200-car rail yard will be built on city-owned property south of Stewart Road. Over the two years, plans have shifted back and forth between the Stewart Road property and the “farm property” on Otis Road. Both sites border the Rompot neighborhood and are near the Prairie Park Fishery.

Lorry drivers who test positive for coronavirus as they try to cross the border into France are being made to drive almost 50 miles to isolate, it has been revealed.
The Department for Transport has set aside two hotels in Kent as comfortable places for non-UK hauliers who need to quarantine but have nowhere else to go.

One is on the outskirts of Sevenoaks while the other is in Medway - both an hourâs journey from the testing centre at Manston Airport in Thanet.
