When Rich Benoit shared that he was towing a Model 3, we were sure his YouTube channel would get exciting content. He revealed the surprise on Twitter by showing some bits of the Mad Max Model 3 he helped conceive, but the first video to appear was not in his channel. It was on the Grind Hard Plumbing Co. YouTube channel, which is the owner of that car. Benoit and the Electrified Garage only helped create it.

Surprising a lot of people and probably angering a large part of Tesla s faithful, Rich decided to put a General Motors V8 engine under the hood of a Tesla Model S. The obvious answer to the most obvious question regarding his undertaking ( why? ) is because nobody has done it before and because it s going to be lots of fun when it s done.
People will argue it s a little backwards to turn an electric vehicle into a classic ICE car, especially when most (if not all) conversions involving the two types of propulsion tend to go the other way around, but Rich hasn t built a name for himself on YouTube by playing by the rules. You can do what everybody else does and hope your work stands out, or you can carve a different path for yourself and enjoy the life of a trailblazer.
Remember The $5,000 Rich Rebuilds Mini EV? It Was Cheaper Than That

When we started following Rich Benoit’s newest electric project, we called it a budget EV conversion. Although that is technically correct, we feel that it deserves to be corrected. What Benoit did was recycling a Mini that would end up in a junkyard by giving it an electric soul. It had the goal of costing $5,000. Now that it is complete, we are happy to say it cost way less than that.
Benoit had to make some changes, such as getting a more powerful controller. He also stripped off the rear seats to place the second Chevy Volt battery pack there. Not only because he wanted to be able to swap batteries to compete with this Mini at the 24 Hours Of LeMons but also for a matter of safety.
