Projects costing over Rs58bn envisaged for GB - Newspaper

GILGIT: The Development Working Party (DWP) has envisaged uplift projects worth over Rs58 billion for Gilgit-Baltistan. According to a press release issued here on Sunday by Ali Taj, the GB government spokesperson, the DWP meeting was held in Gilgit with Chief Minister Mohammad Khalid Khurshid Khan in the chair. Finance minister Javed Ali Manwa, minister for planning Fatullah Khan, the chief secretary, additional chief secretary and other officials were in attendance. The meeting recommended upgradation of Gilgit, Chilas and Skardu hospitals and construction of a medical college in the region. It also recommended construction of Shounter tunnel, Darel Tangir and Nagar expressways, establishment of IT centres in all the 10 districts, a water supply scheme in Gilgit town, a sewerage project in Skardu town and establishment of a hotel and hospitality management institute.

Nazir Ahmed, who was presiding over a session of the assembly’s ongoing pre-budget sitting, told the house that they could not remain silent on the revelations made by adviser on food Shamasul Haq Lone. Ministers Fatullah Khan, Kazim Masum, Wazeer Saleem and opposition members Haji Rehmat Khaliq and Shahzad Agha are members of the committee, which will present its report in the house within two weeks.

Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan will head the committee while opposition leader in GB Assembly Advocate Amjad Hussain of PPP, Member GB Assembly Ghulam Mohammad of PML-N, Minister Mohammad Kazim Masem of MWM, Member GB Assembly Haji Rehmat Khaliq of JUI-F, Minister Abbaidullah Baig and Minister Raja Azam Khan of PTI will be members of the committee. The main task of the parliamentary committee is to consult with leaders of all parliamentary parties in GB and take them into confidence regarding bringing administrative and political reforms in the region and formulate a joint mechanism.
