IPOH, May 9 A former soldier was shot dead after he attacked the 4th Battalion Border Regiment control post in Gerik, about 130 km from here, yesterday, police said today.

The Mayor of Bolton along with an MP and a 100-year-old war veteran have officially reopened a cafe providing support for veterans in the town centre. The Para Cafe, in Thynne Street, has reopened its outdoor area in line with recent lockdown easing, unveiling a poignant new mural commemorating a Bolton war hero. The mural is in memory of late paratrooper Albert Campbell, the grandad of co-owner Lauren Cole, and depicts World War II’s Operation Market Garden, one of the deadliest battles of the war. The striking image has been recreated by artist Kazer Graff, who also painted the mural on Sweet Green Tavern.

PASIR MAS (Bernama): The Malaysian Armed Forces has thwarted an attempt to smuggle in drugs after seizing 402kg of syabu estimated to be worth RM16.08mil in Kampung Lubok Stol, Rantau Panjang here.
Eighth Brigade Commander Brig Gen Zamsari Abu Hassan said a patrol team from the 4th Battalion Border Regiment found the drug in 10 black sacks labelled as ‘Guanyinwang’ brand tea which were left by two suspicious individuals on the banks of Sungai Golok, at about 10am Monday (Feb 8).
