Parts of mobile phones, chargers to get costlier
New Delhi: The government proposed Monday to impose import duty on components of mobile phones and chargers, to enhance local value addition. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced review of 400 exemptions in customs duty including those applicable on the mobile devices segment. “For greater domestic value addition, we are withdrawing a few exemptions on part of chargers and sub-parts of mobiles. Further, some parts of mobile rate will move from nil rate to moderate 2.5 per cent,” Sitharaman said.

She said that the focus of the Budget 2021-22 has been on spending big on infrastructure and attending to the needs of healthcare sector for reviving Indian economy which is expected to contract by 7.7 per cent in the current fiscal ending March hit by the COVID-19 crisis.
Briefing media after the presentation of Budget in Parliament, Sitharaman said the government has not lost opportunity to clean up its own book.

New Delhi, Feb 1 : Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said that the government will facilitate setting up of a world class fintech hub in Gujarat International Finance Tec (Gift) city.
She also announced several tax incentives to the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at Gift city while presenting the Budget in Parliament.
These include tax holiday for capital gains from incomes of aircraft leasing companies, tax exemptions for aircraft lease rentals paid to foreign lessors, tax incentive for relocating foreign funds in the IFSC and tax exemption to investment division of foreign banks located in IFSC.
