Family members, friends and local leaders gathered in Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon for the annual Gander Memorial and Wreath Laying Ceremony to remember the Fort Campbell soldiers who were killed in a plane crash in Newfoundland over three decades ago.

nd Brigade Combat Team Commander Colonel Michael Kovacevic and retired 502nd Bravo Commander Colonel Mark Armstrong were the guest speakers at the memorial hosted by the Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce.

Colonel Kovacevic said 35-years ago on December 12, 1985 the entire community of Fort Campbell was shaken by the news that 248 soldiers and eight crew members aboard Arrow Air Flight 1285 died in a crash in Gander, Newfoundland as they were returning home.
