With boating season upon us, authorities are urging people to exercise caution on the lakes following a sinking incident in northern Minnesota.
It happened Friday on Lake Marquette, which is about one mile southwest of Bemidji. According to a release from the Beltrami County sheriff, a canoe capsized on the lake shortly after 3:00 p.m., leaving the three people aboard in potentially serious trouble.
Thankfully, the trio made it back to shore safely, the sheriff says. The release points out that all three were wearing Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) i.e. life jackets.

ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WYFF) - An Erskine College student died in a boating accident on Lake Secession.
It happened Friday at 11:41 p.m. while two students were fishing.
Jack Franklin-Lee Hunt, 18, of Townville was driving the boat when debris popped out of the water and hit him as he heading back to the landing dock, the coroner said.
Hunt was a member of the Erskine fishing team, officials said.
Abbeville County coroner Dr. Mark Dorn has ruled Hunt’s death accidental.

PHETCHABURI: A solider and a police officer who went missing after their boat sank in a reservoir in Nong Ya Plong district on Wednesday were found dead on Saturday.
The bodies of the two men were found floating in the reservoir on Saturday morning, said a member of the search team.
