The new shop recently opened in the Hillcrest storefront previously operated by the Cohn Restaurant Group’s charitable taco shop, Tacos Libertad. As it happens, the space has been taken over by a different, longstanding local restaurant group: Mo’s Universe, best known for gay-friendly establishments including Urban Mo’s, Gossip Grill, and the inimitable Baja Betty’s.
And, to be sure, rainbow flags fly over Salad To-go-go’s storefront. But whereas Mo’s aforementioned businesses bills themselves as lifestyle-centric gathering places, this smaller counter shop plays it straighter. It’s a less about celebrating Hillcrest’s LGBTQ culture, and a more about producing a wide-ranging menu of salads.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) San Diego restaurants could face daily fines of up to $10,000 if they do not scale back their parklets for outdoor dining by Tuesday.
The city has set that deadline for restaurants to bring their parklets within federal, state and local fire codes. To do that, restaurants would have remove their permanent rooftops and move the portion of their parklets that block red curbs, among other requirements. The city has extended temporary outdoor permits through July 13, 2022, but gave a July 13, 2021 deadline to get up to code.
People from around the world who use the travel website gave Betty s high marks.
Popular Hillcrest restaurant Baja Betty s was recently ranked first place out 367 Mexican restaurants, and fifth place out of 2,755 overall restaurants in San Diego by Tripadvisor.
Opened in 2004, the restaurant and bar is known for a big portions, festive atmosphere, and strong cocktails. Baja Betty s is part of the Mo s Universe group of restaurants, which operates 5 popular establishments in Hillcrest.
