Foard goes back-to-back, defeats McMichael in NCHSAA 2A volleyball title

Cary, N.C. Even a pandemic couldn t stop Fred T. Foard s volleyball team from doing what it set out to do: win a second straight state title.
The Tigers claimed the back-to-back 2A crown with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-22) win over McMichael in the N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball championship match on Saturday at Cary s Green Level High School.
It s the eighth time that the Tigers (19-0) have claimed the state title in as many tries. Foard s 8-0 record in state championship games is unrivaled in NCHSAA volleyball history, and second in all-time titles to only Hendersonville s 10 crowns.
East Wake Academy claims first title, downs Mountain Island Charter in 1A volleyball final

Cary, N.C. The East Wake Academy volleyball team went where no Eagles team had ever gone before, and they ve got some new hardware to show for it.
EWA claimed the school s first N.C. High School Athletic Association championship in any sport with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23) win over Mountain Island Charter in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A volleyball championship match on Saturday at Cary s Green Level High School.
Cardinal Gibbons routs Pinecrest, returns to first title game since 2015

Southern Pines, NC The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders swept the Pinecrest Patriots on the road on Tuesday night to advance to the 4A state championship match.
Gibbons came out of the gates dominant, as it stormed out to a 25-11 win in the first set with relative ease.
The second set ended with the same score, but started with a 4-0 run by Pinecrest, a sign that the battle-ready Patriots weren t going to go down easily.
The offensive attack made up of junior setter Celia Ryan and outside hitter and University of Delaware signee Emily Chrysogelos was effective throughout the match, and the duo was instrumental in helping the Crusaders to two lopsided set wins.
Cardinal Gibbons advances to 4A East final after sweep of Millbrook

Raleigh, N.C. Cardinal Gibbons volleyball team earned a trip to the 4A East regional championship with a sweep of Cap 7 Conference rival Millbrook on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders took down Millbrook 25-19, 25-22, 25-11, with the third set showing their dominance. Cardinal Gibbons built leads in the first and second sets, but watch Millbrook come close to comebacks in each.
In the first set, Cardinal Gibbons led 13-7, but a 6-1 run by Millbrook got the Wildcats back within a point. The set remained tight, as Cardinal Gibbons led 21-18, but the Crusaders finished the set with a 4-1 run to claim a 25-19 win.
